About 1-800-555-tell and 411 on Pulver FWD - the Tell Me Service
Voice recognition systems for regular
telephones and VoIP
In a previous discussion we said that you should not let the Pulver Free World Dial "411" service persuade you to chose FWD as your free SIP provider. Let's explain.
SIP shortcuts are possible through programming. Calling 411 on FWD is only a shortcut. It actually goes to 1-800-555-tell (1-800-555-8355), or "Tell Me"
You can call it for free on your home phone, and the service is quite nice. It uses voice recognition. When used over SIP, if the service provider is busy, enough packets may be dropped to disrupt the voice recognition.
If you use Addaline as a SIP provider, as of this writing you do not have access to toll free services with their basic free account, thus you cannot call Tell Me. If you selected Inphonex, you can call toll free numbers, but you must enter the entire phone number. (Right click, select the proxy, the dial the number)
You can call 1-800-555-TELL from any phone to get voice activated menus which access traffic, weather, news, top stories and more. Traffic reports are available for most major cities, and freeway information is available by Interstate number.
If you are on business in Italy and you are flying to Kansas City Missouri the next day, you can call 1-800-555-tell from your SIP phone in Italy, and hear the traffic and weather for tomorrow in Kansas City. Select the right Internet phone and the call is free.
