CallOnTheNet had a unique dialup hard phone for VoIP. Use any dial-up or higher speed internet connection to call worldwide via CallOnTheNet. No PC required! NO BROADBAND REQUIRED! This hard phone looks like a normal phone but it has a built-in dial-up 56K modem for using a simple dial-up ISP to make low cost voip calls.
The company says they will respond to help and support requests within two hours or they will give you $5 (USD). Their guarantee is very good considering some Voip companies are simply reselling extra bandwidth or providing Voip as a side business. Some of CallOnTheNet's competitors, as certified by Hot Voip Phones, never answer help requests of forum questions.
CallOnTheNet does sell hardware including ATA adapters and hard phones. They also sell a complete package for those that want to start their own phone company, costing $1600 (USD) at the time we wrote this. It is estimated that 75 percent of all telephone calls will be free by 2008, but you can perhaps make this a pofitable business before then.
Calls in the United States, which we use as a reference when comparing services, are on 1.9 cents per minute - a very good rate which is about 1 cent per minute less than many others.
The CallOnTheNet website is now gone. Their phones looked intuituve and appeared easy to use. We did not test their products or service.
